How do your personal/unique qualities best fit the International System?
The International System is based on principals of uplifting women who want to excel in their lives and make a difference in their communities, all while maintaining and celebrating our energy, commitment to marriage and family, and our desire to challenge ourselves. I have dedicated my life to the principal of servant leadership and am blessed daily to be able to serve so many others through the spirit of volunteerism, through my platform and my foundation.
What is something few people know about you?
Few people know that I really can’t cook! Wait, I take that back. The entire local volunteer fire department does know that… I also can drive a tractor (done once in stilettos), a cotton picker and can operate a module builder. And, I’ve also flown an airplane for a whopping 30 seconds!
What do you do to stay healthy?
To me, staying healthy is not just about being physically healthy; it’s about your spiritual health and mental health too. I work out at least 3 days a week, and pay attention to what I eat. I also attend church services regularly and try to eliminate negativity from my life. I remind myself daily to be thankful for what I have, and to think differently and positively. If you’re going to frown, make sure that there are not 1,000 reasons to smile first!
Everybody talks about “family values”. What are they?
Traditional family values are usually passed on from one generation to the next, laying the foundation and framework on which we raise and teach our children. Our family adheres to a basic set of faith-based morals that creates a safe, positive and supportive place for all members to grow and excel in life. We strive to be respectable, hard-working people. We always do our best and we never give up, and we teach our children to be good decision makers no matter what situation they are faced with.
What is your worst habit? Why?
Definitely popping my knuckles! But, not just my knuckles, I can pop every joint in my body! You should hear it when I step out of bed in the morning! It’s a sick addiction of bone cracking! I like to blame it on the years of volleyball, gymnastics and cheerleading. Unfortunately, it’s an ugly habit I’ve passed along to my son too. He was once popping his knuckles in a doctor’s office and I told him to stop. The doctor said, “Tyler, do you know why your Mom told you to stop?” And like a perfectly programmed seven year old he replied, “Yes, sir, because it will cause arthritis.” The doctor said, “No son, it doesn’t cause arthritis. It just annoys your Mom.”
